Our Strengths

Growing

In 2015, we opened Jabs Hall, a state-of-the-art LEED Gold building designed to promote collaborative learning and foster innovation and creativity. We boast two fireplaces, flexible classroom spaces, writeable glass walls, and a focus group room.

Hands-on

Professor of Accounting assists students as a part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
We have numerous hands-on opportunities available to students from preparing taxes in the community and managing real money through an investment portfolio to providing pro bono consulting for actual clients. Gain valuable experiences alongside our knowledgeable and caring professors.

Connected

Students connect with employers at one of three college recruiter events

Even though we are located in a rural state, we bring in entrepreneurs, business executives, and non-profit leaders. We prepare our students for careers after graduation with local companies and family businesses to industry giants like Nike, Google, Boeing, and R/GA.

Distinguished

MSU's AMA student chapter is Top 10 internationally.

Our American Marketing Association student chapter is ranked top 10 internationally and has won numerous awards in various competitions, including multilple 1st place finishes. Our students have been selected for competitive internships and earned prestigious recognition such as the Schwarzman Scholarship, Udall Scholarship, and an impromptu award from Ocean Spray executives.

Professionalism

Our Bracken Business Communications Clinic provides one-on-one coaching with students to improve writing, speaking, interviewing, and oral presentation skills. We host a day-long professionalism workshop for our graduate accounting students and connect students to MSU events including the Etiquette Dinner, Executive's Closet, and various workshops.

Innovation

Students participate in a Design Thinking Workshop in Jabs Hall
Our mission is to inspire creativity, innovation, and growth. We offer interdisciplinary coursework through the Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning, sometimes resulting in new business ventures. We host workshops and events covering topics ranging from design thinking and rapid prototyping to Code 24 hackathons and Salesforce training.

Unique Resources

Experiential Programs

Students visit New York City's Wall Street

We offer unique opportunities for students to experience what different careers can look like as well as study abroad. From our one-of-a-kind Community Banking program to our faculty-led study abroad trips, there is something for everyone. Our American Financial Institutions class travels to NYC to visit financial landmarks each year; Accounting students spend Spring Break in Alaska preparing taxes in native villages.

Career Prep

Spring 2020 Meet the Recruiters Fair in Jabs Hall

We also host three college career fairs during the academic year, one of which is solely dedicated to accounting-related jobs. We generally have between 25-60 employers from across the nation that attend each event, representing companies like Deloitte, FDIC, Kiewit, KPMG, Northwestern Mutual, WealthVest, and Zoot Enterprises.

Blackstone LaunchPad

They also host Code 24 hackathons and events like this presentation from the Senior Director of Strategy and Insights of Kickstarter.

Additional Information

Student Organizations

We have six active student organizations currently supported by our college. Click here for the full list of MSU student organizations.

We have a Jabs student ambassador program and have two senator positions in the student body government, ASMSU.

MSU's Sophomore Surge program develops peer mentors who guide and support incoming students throughout their first year of college. Business students participating in this program can ask to be assigned a Jabs freshman seminar, BGEN 104 section.

Student Health Services

Students have access to Student Health Services, counseling and psychological services (CPS), dental services, and the office of health advancement (covers nutrition, travel health, etc).

In an effort to reach the varying well-being needs of our campus community, staff included, we are continuing to offer services remotely and in person. Providers that prefer masks will notify individuals of that request prior to an in person-appointment. We appreciate your understanding during these challenging times. Updates will be posted here.
