Ecology Department Photo Contest

Monday, 9/14 - Wednesday, 10/14 | Online

The Ecology Department is looking for photographs to feature in departmental marketing materials. We want to showcase the research and researchers that call our department home and the ecosystems and critters that have built our careers. 

We would love to have those images come from the students, faculty, and researchers already in the MSU Community! 

Winning photographs will have opportunity to be exhibited during the Ecology Department's World Nature Day Celebration on November 2nd and published in future department materials. The top photograph in each category will also receive a prize.

What Comes Next? Jobs and Graduation Applications

With the Spring 2027 graduation application deadline right around the corner (October 15th), we are sure you have questions about your next steps! Interested in learning more about job applications, field positions, or other future endeavors in ecology and fish and wildlife management? Swing by our "What Comes Next?" event to talk with faculty about the future of the field. 

Ecology staff and advisors will also be approving and certifying graduation plans for students who need to meet the October 15th graduation application deadline.

Ecology Trick or Treat

Wednesday, 10/14 | 10:00am - 3:00pm | Lewis Hall 310

Come learn about Ecology's faculty and on-campus resources while competing for a prize and collecting candy! Pick up a trick or treat and scavenger hunt map in the Ecology Office.

The first 30 students to complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize!

Advising Sessions

As we gear up for priority registration, the Ecology Department is hosting themed advising sessions. Do you have questions about specific areas within Fish & Wildlife Management? Do you need to meet with an advisor to plan next semester's schedule? Do you need help creating a DegreeWorks plan? 

Stop by an advising session to meet with faculty advisors, the department head, and the academic services coordinator.  Themes are listed below. 

Wildlife & Health Professions | Wednesday, 10/21

Wildlife | 2:30 - 5:00pm | Lewis Hall 310

Interested in working with terrestrial organisms (such as bobcats, elk, and pollinators)?  Do you have questions about wildlife-related research and field positions? We will have faculty advisors that conduct research on  terrestrial organisms available to chat with you about future careers, courses, and other experiences to prepare for a career in ecology and conservation. 

Health Professions | Time TBA | Location TBA

Are you pre-med, pre-dental, or working toward a career in health professions? We will have advisors and staff ready to answer your questions about graduate school requirements and health professions' course requirements.

Fish & Water | Wednesday, 10/28 | Lewis Hall 310

Are you passionate about water and the organisms that live in water (such as trout, sturgeon, zooplankton, stoneflies)? Do you have questions about working in fisheries management and water conservation? We will have faculty advisors that conduct research on aquatic organisms and water resources available to chat with you about future careers, courses, and other experiences to prepare for an aquatic-focused career. 

Plants, Ecosystems, and Analysis | Wednesday, 11/4 | Lewis Hall 310

If you are interested in plant ecologies, studying ecosystems, or landscape conservation that is used in ecological research and conservation, bring your questions to this advising session. Our faculty advisors reseraching these topics will be available to answer questions about courses and career paths that focus on plants, ecosystems, and landscape management. 

Graduate School Panel and FAQ Session

Are you interested in graduate school? Join us for an FAQ session and panel. We will have current graduate students and faculty discussing graduation applications, how to find a program, and their experience as graduate students and researchers. 

Dead Week Survival

We know that dead week drags and turns students into zombies. Swing by the Ecology Office for a snack, coffee, and a dead week survival kit to get you through the final days of the semester.
