INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCESS

Step 1: Complete the above information and send it to jason.cummins1@montana.edu as an attachment.
Step 2:

Submit an application to be admitted into MSU’s Educational Leadership M.Ed. (for Principal Cert) or Ed.S. program (for Supt Cert). For details see: https://www.montana.edu/education/grad/edlead/applications.html

  • One of the three letters of recommendation should be from your current supervisor and preferably another of the three letters of recommendation should be from a tribal elder or community leader.
  • Please ask those recommending you to include examples of your abilities as a teacher, teacher leadership, community leadership.
  • In your self-nomination letter, include a statement regarding how you intend to give back to your community the benefits you receive from participating in the I LEAD program.
Note: Students completing the Ed.S. program may apply for Ed.D. program upon completion of the I LEAD Superintendent requirements and the 30 credits earned as an Ed.S. studentcan be applied to the Ed.D. degree.
Step 3: Once selected as an I LEAD candidate, you will be asked to sign a participation agreement and provide proof of tribal enrollment (either yourself, your parents, or your grandparents).
