From the Department Head
Dear Students and Colleagues,
Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, March 14 (remember to spring forward) and I thought I’d share some Montana history about its adoption. Here is a note in the MSU Exponent from February 1976. Enjoy!
Take good care,
Dr. Ann Ewbank

CFE Event: Social Media Visibility & Research Practice
Wednesday, Mar 10 from 1-2pm
Where: WebEx
Social media networks can extend the visibility of your research, can be used to identify interdisciplinary research partners, and can communicate your research to audiences beyond those in your field for broader impact. Blogs, podcasts, data visualization, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn are just some of the tools and networks that can be used to incorporate social media into research practice. This Social Media Visibility workshop will provide practical examples of proactive ways to communicate and share your research in social networks for increased visibility and impact.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Resources
- Please attend the CBME’s Preserving Indigenous Languages Webinar this Wednesday, 3/10 from 2:00-3:30 (Mountain time) by Dr. Cheryl Crawley who will present Education Leadership in Multilingual Settings. All webinars are available in the Center for Bilingual and Multicultural Education’s video library. See attached flyers for upcoming webinars.
- Beloved Community is a spring symposium open to interested educators. The keynote speakers' presentations and breakout session topics connect to her own research findings and passion: In order for schools to become safe, loving spaces so that all children may grow, educational institutions must be transformed into “beloved communities,” a philosophy rooted, in part, in the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Professional Development & Engagement Opportunities
- Call for presenters: The Northern Rocky Mountain Educational Research Association (NRMERA), the regional affiliate of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) is calling for 2021 conference proposals. We host a yearly conference as well as publish a peer-reviewed journal Educational Research: Theory & Practice (more information: https://www.nrmera.org/). The deadline to submit proposals is JUNE 30th, 2021. See attached flyer.
- Call for research participants: please see the attached flyer from Dr. Shannon C. Mulhearn (University of Nebraska at Kearney who is conducting a research study to learn about university students who are preparing to become teachers and their experience with mindfulness practices. Dr. Mulhearn is inviting teacher candidates to participate which includes completing an electronic questionnaire and attending weekly 60-minute mindfulness sessions (via Zoom) for 8 weeks during the Spring semester.
