Dear Students and Colleagues,
Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, March 14 (remember to spring forward) and I thought I’d share some Montana history about its adoption. Here is a note in the MSU Exponent from February 1976. Enjoy!

From the Advising Office
- Advising for Summer & Fall 2021 is now open. Elementary Education, Social Studies Broadfield, and General Science Broadfield students can advise with David and Cyndi via email (just email a list of proposed classes and any questions to your assigned advisor) or by appointment (Webex is preferred, but we can also call you).
- Students planning to student teach in Fall 2021 must attend one of the following two virtual meetings:
- Monday, April 19, 5-6pm: Fall 2021 Student Teaching Orientation
- Friday, April 23, 2-3pm: Fall 2021 Student Teaching Orientation
- Students planning to student teach in Spring 2022 must attend one of the following two virtual meetings:
- Monday, April 19, 3:30-4:30pm: Spring 2022 Student Teaching Information Session
- Friday, April 23, 3:30-4:30pm: Spring 2022 Student Teaching Information Session
- The Education Advising Center is currently offering remote advising only.

Opportunities
- Call for research participants: please see the attached flyer from Dr. Shannon C. Mulhearn (University of Nebraska at Kearney who is conducting a research study to learn about university students who are preparing to become teachers and their experience with mindfulness practices. Dr. Mulhearn is inviting teacher candidates to participate which includes completing an electronic questionnaire and attending weekly 60-minute mindfulness sessions (via Zoom) for 8 weeks during the Spring semester.
- Lead instructor wanted for summer art camp: Teachers with experience in a variety of sculptural medias are encouraged to apply. The right candidate will be able to create diverse, age-appropriate, art education curriculum that complements our weekly themes. Summer camps run ten continuous weeks starting June 14 - August 20, 2021. Wage $15 - $20/hour DOE.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Art Education, Studio Arts, Design or equivalent teaching experience.
- Schedule: FULL TIME: Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 5pm with a 30 minute lunch break, June 14 - August 20. Camps are in session 9am – 4pm each day.
- Ability to create dynamic art education curriculums for youth of all ages.
- Competence instructing on relevant artistic processes, while managing up to 11 children at once, in a safe and controlled atmosphere.
- Able to manage a team of high school interns who serve as summer camp support staff.
- Timeliness, passion, and patience are a must.
- Must be able to start the week of June 14 with additional training days in March/ April.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Resources
- Please attend the CBME’s Preserving Indigenous Languages Webinar this Wednesday, 3/10 from 2:00-3:30 (Mountain time) by Dr. Cheryl Crawley who will present Education Leadership in Multilingual Settings. All webinars are available in the Center for Bilingual and Multicultural Education’s video library. See attached flyers for upcoming webinars.
- Beloved Community is a spring symposium open to interested educators. The keynote speakers' presentations and breakout session topics connect to her own research findings and passion: In order for schools to become safe, loving spaces so that all children may grow, educational institutions must be transformed into “beloved communities,” a philosophy rooted, in part, in the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
