I. Welcome and Announcements
- Program assessment reports due October 15, 2023
- Long range building program cycle for 2025 the legislature is in full swing.
- Library experiencing good busy-ness at the beginning of the term, Research Alliance has moved into 3rd floor space.
- State of MSU Research October 27, 2023
- UM art museum opened in brand new space, Montana artists in an impressive collection.
II. Meeting minutes from May 24, 2023, and August 30, 2023, accepted.
III. Discussion
- President Cruzado
- Great start this semester
- Pre-registration program, we will continue to build on successes.
- Increased enrollment, research, engagement. In alignment with the strategic plan
- Several searches are taking place this fall. Candidates read and recognize our adherence to the strategic plan.
- President Cruzado invited questions
- Discussed changing demographics and recruitment landscape, decline in college going, value of higher education, highlighted the critical need to enhance student retention, recognized the ~150,000 Montanans with some college/no degree.
- Discussed update of the strategic plan, propose largely non-substantive changes, with flexibility. Communicating proposed changes will be important.
- the president asked the Council to review recruitment strategies for returning students, consider what barriers exist, and strategize how to remove those barriers.
- Great start this semester
- An update to highlight valuable insights from subgroup meetings. Fastnow asked the Council to carefully examine the redline document, review the subgroup documents, and provide email comments no later than October 9th. Fastnow will prepare a draft of the plan to submit to President Cruzado. Communicating what we are changing and why will be important.
- Revisit the Planning Council work plan for AY24
- Championing the 'refreshed' Strategic Plan
- Additional work suggested in the last meeting: Accreditation, compensation deep dive, overviews of centers and core facilities, and persistence to degree group.
- Additional topics: recruitment strategies, core facilities, Return 2 Learn (and Fresh Start Policy)
