About Us

Thomas Luhrsen
I began my law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff for the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. I have worked at Montana State University Police Department since 2015 and held various and more challenging jobs assignments from Master Patrolman to Lieutenant. I am excited to work at my alma mater from which I graduated in 1995 with a BS in Physical Education. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University and a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with a concentration in Homeland Security and Homeland Defense from the US Naval War College. I retired from the Montana Army National Guard and am proud of the 32 years of service I gave to this great state and the United States of America. I have served on the Governor’s State Emergency Response Commission and served as the Director for Military Support. I have made several trips overseas to conduct training and exercises in central Asia. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, fishing, hunting, and attending various levels of sporting events in and out of the state.
