The Montana 4-H State Horse Show is a chance for 4-H horse project members to showcase their skills alongside peers from across the state in a fun and educational competition. With classes covering nearly every aspect of the 4-H horse project and skill levels for all riders, this event welcomes youth ages 9-19 who meet their county’s participation guidelines.

All Montana 4-H members enrolled in horse projects are encouraged to compete—no county fair qualification is required. Participants must enter the project and level they are enrolled in with an approved 4-H project horse. Horses must primarily be entered in a project class before competing in optional classes. For example, a rider entering Western Horsemanship Level 2 may then also compete in showmanship and trail with the same horse.
