How to create a Defense Announcement on the MSU Calendar

 

  1. Go to the MSU Calendar of Events main webpage and click the "Submit an Event" button in the left-hand navigation. You will be asked to log in to the COPE system with your netID and password.
  2. Click the "Create New Event" button on the upper right hand side of the page.
  3. Fill in event details using this guide to each section:
    • Event title: The title of your event.
    • Event Short Title: A simpler title of your event used in feeds requiring short titles.
    • Summary: 1-2 sentences about your event. Show on calendar homepage.
    • Short Summary: A 1-sentence summary of your event used in feeds requiring short summaries.
    • Complete Description: All information regarding your event. Information may duplicate content placed in summary fields. 
  4. You will also have the opportunity to add an image, video or custom document to accompany your event announcement in the "Media" section.
  5. Tag your event so it filters appropriately. Start by typing "Presentation" and use the auto-populated list to choose the appropriate presentation category as it relates to the defense (ex. Professional Paper; PhD Comp Exam; Doctoral Defense; Thesis Defense, etc.)
  6. If you are an administrator for more than one calendar, you'll need to select the correct group under "Group Access".
  7. Finally, click on "Create Event" to finish.
