Model United Nations
Students have three different ways of engaging with Model United Nations at Montana State University.
Model United Nations Student Club. Any student at MSU may join the student club. The activities of the club generally run from August through May. The club elects student officers who help run the organization. Club meetings involve discussion of current events, simulations, planning for competitions, skill development, and administrative business. The club is currently meeting (Fall 2024) on Mondays from 6:30-8:00pm in Wilson Hall 1-121.
PSCI 337: Model United Nations. The course associated with Model United Nations at MSU is offered by the Department of Political Science every other spring semester. The course is open to all MSU students regardless of major or level, though seats are limited. The course emphasizes development of relevant diplomatic skills and simulation activities, though students also learn about operations of the United Nations, international law, and important international policy issues.
Model United Nations Competitions. Students in the Model United Nations course have the option of traveling to the Model United Nations of the Far West event in San Francisco in April, though doing so is not required. More experienced students then typically attend the Northwest Model United Nations event in Seattle in November or in Portland in February.
