Discrimination

Discrimination is conduct based on one's identity in a protected class that unreasonably interferes with a person’s participation in a University Program or Activity. This conduct excludes, denies, treats differently, or adversely impacts the individual(s).  

The following is a list of protected classes which follow federal and state laws as well as MUS policy.

  • Physical/mental disability  
  • Veteran status  
  • Religion and creed  
  • Marital/family status

Sexual Harassment

Sexual Harassment is any unwanted conduct that makes a reasonable person feel uncomfortable, humiliated, or distressed and is based on sex, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation. It has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with participation in a University Activity or Program. This includes sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, quid pro quo conduct, and hostile environment. 

  • Harassment does not need to be based on intent to harm, be directed at a specific target, or involve repeated incidents.
